Peter Bergen currently serves as CNN’s national security analyst and produced Osama bin Laden’s first television interview during which he declared war against the United States in 1997. As the director of the National Security Studies Program at the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C., Bergen leads the nonprofit, non-partisan think tank’s research on terrorism, counterinsurgency, and South Asia’s geopolitics. The author of three New York Times best sellers, Bergen’s most recent book, Manhunt: The Ten Year Search for bin Laden, from 9/11 to Abbottabad, was adapted to the screen in an HBO documentary. Bergen served as the executive producer for the film, which was presented at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. His book The Longest War: The Enduring Conflict Between America and Al-Qaeda (2011), was noted by The Guardian and Newsweek as one of the most indispensible books on terrorism in the past decade. He is a fellow at Fordham University’s Center on National Security and has previously held teaching positions at Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities. He is on the editorial board of leading scholarly journal, Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, has written for a wide range of publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Foreign Affairs, The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, is a contributing editor at The New Republic and maintains a weekly column for CNN.com.
