NewsCNN national security analyst presents “Obama’s War” at Benedictine 3/30/2010Phil Brozynski, Media Relations Manager (630) 829-6094 pbrozynski@ben.edu CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen, who produced Osama bin Laden’s first television interview during which he declared war against the United States, will present “Obama’s War: al-Qaeda, the Taliban and Afghanistan” at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12 in the Dan and Ada Rice Center on the campus of Benedictine University. Bergen is a print and television journalist and an author; a Schwartz Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation in Washington D.C. where he co-directs the Counterterrorism Strategy Initiative; a research fellow at New York University’s Center on Law and Security; and a former adjunct lecturer at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Bergen has traveled to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan and Indonesia to learn about Osama bin Laden and his followers. In his newest book, “The Osama bin Laden I Know: An Oral History of al Qaeda’s Leader,” he provides an unprecedented portrait of the world’s most wanted man. Bergen’s appearance is sponsored by the Center for Civic Leadership and Public Service at Benedictine University, which was established by former Illinois Attorney General and Benedictine University Distinguished Fellow Jim Ryan to shape a new generation of public leaders and responsible citizens.
